The test consists of questions of Phy., Chem. and Maths of 12th standard. There are about 50 centres in the State and one centre is in Delhi . Selection is made on the basis of merit in JEE. Those apply for BArch have also to appear in the eligibility test in Geometrical and Free Hand drawing and Aptitude Test, which also conducted by the Board.
After conducting the JEE, the West Bengal Board of Exam, gives merit list of the entrance exam to the Central Selection Committee/Jadavpur University and final selection of the candidates is decided by them. Thus the candidates are required to comply with the requirements of eligibility conditions for admission of the various central Selection Committees for Engineering Colleges / Jadavpur University .
Eligibility : Applicant must be Indian Citizens, Domiciled in West Bengal and who have
passed/appearing at H.S. (10+2) Exam in the General/Vocation Stream of W.B. Council of H.S. Education or its equivalent Exam of a recognized University/Board with English and the subjects (Phy., Chem., Mathematics/ Biology) in which they are to appear in the Joint Entrance Exam and also the Vernacular or any other fifth subject Candidates domiciled in Indian and whose parents possess Indian Citizenship Certificates and who passed the General Certificates of Education (G.C.E.) of U.K. with at least 5 approved subjects including compulsory English and another subject securing O Level besides Phy., Chem. and Mathematics/Biology securing A Level are also eligible.
Candidates who have passed qualifying exams from other states are not eligible for admission to Regional Engg. College, Durgapur or other RECs. Age: Upper age limit 21 years (24 years in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST). However, there is no age limit for admission to Jadavpur University. Those appearing in the qualifying exam, can also apply. Physical fitness of the candidate is also required.
Domicile : Residents of West Bengal are considered as Domicile, if candidates have been residing
in West Bengal continuously for 10 years or their parents are permanent residents of the State.
Reservation of seats: 22% for SC; 6% for ST; 2% for Sports; 1% for Physically Handicapped. Reservation also exists for Defence Personnel and Govt. of India
nominees.
